Louroz Mercader thanks government for applying fair policy across Ontario

I would like to thank the province for allowing all Ontario operators to adjust drinking hours in celebration of the 2010 World Cup of Soccer in South Africa.

If there are no objections from city council, drinking establishments in Mississauga would be allowed to start serving alcohol at 10 a.m. instead of 11 a.m. during the upcoming international sporting event between June 11 – July 11.

As Chairman of the Cooksville Economic Development Corporation (CEDC), I urged all Mississauga Members of Provincial Parliament to extend this policy across the province so all operators may benefit from this unique opportunity and not just the city of Toronto.

I appreciate the government responding to my request for a fair policy across Ontario. Thanks to their timely decision, along with the expected approval of local council, all Mississauga operators will now have the opportunity and flexibility to meet the needs of their customers.

As a significant international event, the 2010 World Cup of Soccer is a time when people of diverse backgrounds come together to celebrate as a community. By slightly adjusting drinking hours to align with matches in another time zone, all of Mississauga’s licensed establishments can equally take advantage of this event.
