Mississauga Ward 7

Priorities.

My commitments to Ward 7 on affordability, safety and mobility.

01

Affordability

  1. Hold the line on property tax increases at or below the rate of inflation.
  2. Establish an independent Office of the Auditor General to review all City spending to look for savings and efficiencies.
  3. Freeze all fees at city-owned community centres; no cost increases for memberships, classes, and programs.
  4. Freeze all MiWay fares at the current rate for the next four years.
  5. Support renegotiating the funding formula for Peel Police with the Province.
  6. Expand property tax rebate for seniors and low-income individuals and families.
  7. Work with developers and non-profits to build more affordable housing projects. Push for more housing options that families, seniors, and young adults can afford, including duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, and townhouses while protecting the unique character of our neighbourhoods.
  8. Focus densification along major corridors and near transit stops with mixed-use buildings.
02

Safety

  1. Reopen the Ward 7 Community Police Station at Hurontario and Dundas.
  2. Establish a permanent neighbourhood community officer unit for Cooksville with specialized training to assist those in crisis.
  3. Increase funding for the Cooksville BIA to support our main street businesses and revitalize the heart of our community.
  4. Secure funding to build and open the long-promised Cooksville Community Centre and Library.
  5. Invest in critical infrastructure to ensure fire services, local roads, parks, forestry and waterways are expanded and maintained to serve our neighbourhoods.
  6. Fix and install new streetlights along streets, sidewalks, and catwalks that need additional lighting.
  7. Add more by-law officers to respond to and enforce by-law violations such as excessive noise in parks, drinking in public spaces, unauthorized construction and illegal parking.
03

Mobility

  1. Hold Metrolinx accountable to complete the Hazel McCallion LRT by 2028.
  2. Improve MiWay and cycling routes with a focus on increasing service and lanes along the Hurontario, Dundas and Confederation corridors.
  3. Advocate for additional GO train and bus service from Cooksville Station, with the goal of establishing all-day, two-way GO service in the future.
  4. Improve education, training, and police enforcement of e-bikes and e-scooters.
  5. Install appropriate traffic calming measures in neighbourhood streets in close consultation with residents.
