Top community concerns
Percentage of feedback that included each issue. Residents may raise more than one concern.
Taxes & affordability
What residents are telling us
- Property taxes keep rising, and have climbed sharply for some households over the years, without services improving to match.
- Seniors and people on fixed pensions worry about staying in their homes and keeping Mississauga affordable, with grocery prices climbing too.
- Residents want their tax dollars spent carefully and want to know where the money goes, including snow-removal contracts and who will pay to run the LRT.
- Questions about extra charges on the tax bill, such as the stormwater charge, and about how properties are assessed.
Crime & safety
What residents are telling us
- Auto theft, break-ins and vandalism.
- A sense that neighbourhoods don’t feel as safe as they used to, and a wish to keep them safe for families.
- Questions about police presence, and slow response when residents call.
- Loitering late at night, and calls for stronger enforcement and bail reform.
City services & maintenance
What residents are telling us
- Sidewalk snow clearing that is missed, or damages lawns and property.
- Boulevard trees and shrubs that haven’t been pruned in years, including along the hydro corridor path, and laneways that need regular upkeep.
- Grass cutting on city boulevards, and garbage and battery pickup that should come more often.
- Potholes, roads and sidewalks in poor condition, and storm drains that need clearing during heavy rain.
- Community centres that need repair and renovation, and the Cooksville Community Centre the city has planned for years but not yet built.
- Keeping streets and public spaces clean, and making sure every neighbourhood gets its fair share of infrastructure funding.
- Consistent enforcement of property bylaws, including front lawns being paved over.
Traffic & road safety
What residents are telling us
- Heavy traffic, speeding, street racing and aggressive driving, on the Queensway and on residential streets.
- Calls for traffic calming at problem corners and near schools: speed bumps that actually slow cars down, a missing stop sign near children, and more police enforcement.
- E-bikes and e-scooters speeding through residential streets, including kids riding without helmets, and the need for a dedicated path and enforcement.
- Traffic lights on Dundas Street that aren’t timed well, and drivers cutting through the neighbourhood to avoid the speed humps on Paisley.
- Finishing the trail at Dr. Martin L. Dobkin Community Park, with a safe crossing on Central Parkway.
Noise
What residents are telling us
- Loud music and late gatherings in local parks and around the Huron Park Community Centre.
- Traffic and aircraft noise that keeps neighbours from enjoying their own backyards.
Parking
What residents are telling us
- Not enough street parking, and neighbours misusing the parking system.
- Visiting guests getting tickets for short stays without a permit.
Transit & LRT
What residents are telling us
- When the LRT will be finished, whether it should have been built underground, and how it affects traffic along Hurontario.
- How Dundas BRT construction will affect the area.
Housing & development
What residents are telling us
- Concern about densification, with houses being split into multiple units or turned into rooming houses.
- Overdevelopment and oversized rebuilds next to existing homes.
Parks & environment
What residents are telling us
- Protecting and naturalizing green space in public parks.
Construction
What residents are telling us
- The unfinished pedestrian bridge over the Credit River, with no public update on the delay.
- Construction on Hurontario Street that residents want finished sooner.
Community & recreation
What residents are telling us
- More recreation, including all-day pools and continued programs for seniors at the community centre.
